An Evening with Dr. Mae Jemison

Dr. Mae Jemison became the first African-American woman admitted into the NASA astronaut training program in 1987. Following more than a year of training, Dr. Jemison became the first African-American woman astronaut and on September 12, 1992, she became the first African-American woman in space, spending 8 days onboard the space shuttle Endeavor.
Since leaving the astronaut corps in 1993, Dr. Jemison has continued her work as a scientist, educator, and innovator. Her many accomplishments and honors include:Founder and President of the Jemison Group and BioSentient Corp, two medical technology companies.Leader of the 100 Year Starship initiative to assure human interstellar space travel to another star within the next century.Induction into the  National Women’s Hall of Fame & International Space Hall of Fame.
